London: Modern to Boutique

Our World | On 15, Jun 2011

It’s not often we have time to escape the confines of Milton Keynes to get out and about, but an invitation to P&MM’s proposal writing team to see some of London’s recently renovated hotels was all the excuse we needed.

With new hotels and renovations happening all the time we decided to brush up our product knowledge and visit some recent openings and renovations, starting with the Mint Hotel at Tower Hill. This large (over 580 bedrooms) four star property has a modern, bright and airy feel and is a good option for a conference of up to around 100 to 150 people. For us, however, the star attraction had to be the amazing views from their Sky Lounge. Not only can you enjoy a cocktail or two but, British weather permitting, there is also a great roof terrace, which can be hired exclusively, with spectacular views over Tower Bridge and the River Thames.

Next stop, the refurbished St Ermin’s, which was still in its soft opening period. The first pleasant surprise was that you felt as if you were entering an elegant boutique hotel rather than a 330 room property. We were all impressed by how sympathetically this deluxe 4 star has been restored; bringing the original features back to life but with some nice modern design touches. There are some lovely meeting spaces for private dinners or meetings, particularly their Crystal ballroom if you were thinking of hosting a dinner for around 100 – 140. A perfect spot for a London incentive if you want a stylish, elegant venue with a relaxed, upmarket feel. And importantly, at a competitive 4 star price!

So there’s a quick insight into a couple of the 4 star properties that we visited. Next week I’ll give you a glimpse into the 5 star world of a London icon and also a hotel that might not have been on your radar!
