The Dorchester Collection: Perfect for Gala Dinner events
Our World | On 13, Oct 2011
The end of September saw the re-launch of a classic in the heart of London. When it comes to grand venues they don’t come much grander than the newly refurbished Ballroom at The Dorchester. The hotel threw open the doors to its ballroom in style, with a party for event industry people, and of course, some of P&MM’s Creative Development team were there to enjoy The Dorchester’s legendary hospitality and check out the hotel.
The pink Laurent Perrier flowed and delicious canapés were in abundance as we got our first glimpse of the understated, elegant room. More of a restoration than refurbishment, the opulence of the original 1930’s designs could be seen in all their glory. The room is lighter and brighter with antique mirrors on the walls and three large crystal chandeliers dominating the domed ceiling. Although decorated on a grand scale the soft colours and decor make it a classic and stylish space. Separate rooms have now been combined to form a larger pre-event space next to the ballroom which will certainly help with receptions for gala dinners and awards’ ceremonies. For those large scale events, with budgets to match, this is a great venue, catering for up to 500 for dinners or a 1000 for a cocktail reception.
While we were there, the team also took the opportunity to wander over the road to have a look at the incredibly chic 45 Park Lane. This is a lovely, art deco, gem of a boutique hotel, all clean lines and polished wood. With a world class Wolfgang Puck restaurant and elegant bar, it is the perfect location for a small upscale London incentive. The bedrooms are contemporary and smart with state of the art technology and the executive balcony rooms we saw had stunning views of Hyde Park opposite. Worth keeping on your radar if you are in event management!
